The site itself may be crashy -- using every trick in the book and then some. Like a testing zone. Or a bomb center....whatever. This lets me put only decent code into play for clients. Plus have some fun and crash a few computers. Ha ha. This site depends on the enabling of javascript. If that's a problem, sorry. The biggest difficulty may be in accessing "popup" windows. I've done the best I can to allow the site to rez itself down, but it's tough. However, 2.x browsers will deliver a good amount of content, even on machines with very slow processors, but some aspects of the site are not accessible without javascript. If you get crashes or bugs, FLAME ME, CURSE ME, BUT TELL ME -- E-MAIL 'EM HERE. And let me know what computer and browser platform you used to see the site. Thanks are hereby due to the 1crew testing folks who were constantly harangued into looking at multiple versions of pages yet again: My Highness and Yours Queenellen; Obadiah Tarzan "it's my real name" Greenberg; Anthony "Suave Beatnik" Martinez; Dave "tastyboy" Stein; Todd "the God" Hassan; Wayne "the man" Scheiner; Jodi MusesMuse K; last but not least, Tony Gardella whose only experience of my web presence ever has been two complete system meltdowns in Win98/IE5.

1uffakind.com uses various embedded plugins, browser sniffers and DHTML in an overly-complex frameset to make the site go. I could elucidate more, but building the thing has been enough; I don't need to write about it too...for now. The site will default to more sophisticated multimedia pages. Sniffers in the pages detect browser platforms and versions and will step itself down to less complex pages when necessary. The pages have browser IDs placed near the lower part of the page as debugging aids. I may strip these out as the site becomes stable, but for now they are invaluable for testing. Browser platform and version. Pages, ideally, work for the given platform and version or HIGHER. If you see a page with "ie ns 4." this means the page is meant to run on Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, versions 4.x or higher. If you see only "ie 3." that page is designed only for Explorer version 3.x or higher. Some alternate versions of pages have slightly different content and/or prizes; your experience of the site in one browser may be very different from what you see or what is available in another browser. I have done some preliminary tests in Explorer 5 that have not turned up any problems, but my tests on that browser have not been as extensive. I have not tested in Opera, although the site has been hit by Opera users.

Three major plugins/players are used for media at the site. You will only see the slugs for these media types on pages where the plugin is actually embedded in the HTML page. You do NOT have to have any of these plugins to view the site, though having Quicktime really helps for handling disparate audio sources. Mac users may want to makes sure that .wav files are mapped to the Quicktime plugin.

known errors There a few known errors in the site. Some are not really errors, but may appear that way. The biggest is the TRANSPARENCY bug in Netscape 3. Graphics used in "rollovers" or image swaps (like the pointing hand interface, the animated buttons, and the icons that appear when you rollover many of the thumbnails) will NOT replace each other when the image changes. This leads to the oft-loved "many fingered" hand effect on the main interface. Tough. This doesn't really affect navigation in the site except for the artists' name rollovers in the gallery -- you will get a mish mash of type in Netscape 3. But it looks cool and it's fun to play with Although the jscript runs the CSS bug fix for Navigator, some Navigator browsers with lower memory settings may crash on the redraw when a window is made smaller. Rollover animations may not play on subsequent rollovers after the first click in most Netscape browsers. Some Explorer 4.x browsers with jscript problems will not be able to open links for popups, either as popups or as "blank" pages. This is a rare problem, but can waste your experience of the site. This will be addressed soon, with a bit of luck. PLEASE PLEASE send me any errors, bugs or problems you find with the site. Just click here.
